My Beautiful New Niece
by Susan on Jun.30, 2009, under My Family, Newborns
Here is my gorgeous new niece at just 5 days old! So sorry about the obnoxious water mark, but when I’m dealing with a child that is not mine, I want to be extra safe.

Fun with water
by Susan on Jun.22, 2009, under Artsy Stuff
I have always had fun photographing water, so I thought I’d turn another one of my class assignments into a water project. These are pictures of high color contrast (magenta/green, blue/yellow, red/cyan). So, just for the fun of it, here they are:

Just One to Share

Uncle Howard (Nick’s dad’s Uncle) graciously allowed me to use his Nikon D700 for a few days. I wasn’t planning to really use it much because I don’t want to get camera envy and get in a rush to upgrade my camera. But, I did take it out last night when we went on a family walk. It was fun to play with. Here’s just one from last night:

As much as I enjoyed using the camera (thanks Uncle Howard!), I am still okay with my tusty little Rebel XTi. It makes me work, and I think that is a good thing, at this point. Some day though. . . .
Maritime Exchange Museum Pictures
by Susan on Jun.15, 2009, under Miscellaneous
Over the last two months or so, I’ve taken about 1000 pictures of nautical antiques for my father-in-law. Nick has created a website for him so he can sell some of his stuff. And, as we all know, you need pictures to sell anything online.
I can’t say this without it sounding horrible, but I just can’t describe how sick I am of nautical antiques. LOL After taking all of those pictures, I’ve had to crop, edit, resize, and save them for the web. I’ve already added a lot of them to the website, but I reached my limit and told Nick I was going on strike. He is working on adding the rest of them now. I’m not really a product photographer, and the conditions were really quite awful (lots of windows everywhere with GREEN trees reflecting off of all the shiny brass), but here is just one item from the museum so you can see the huge project we’ve been working on.

Karate or, as Nick likes to say, ka-ra-tay!
by Susan on Jun.12, 2009, under My Family
Last October-ish, Alexis started asking if she could take karate classes. She didn’t stop asking. LOL So, by the time her birthday rolled around in January, I figured she was really serious about it and told Grandma Patty that Alexis would love karate lessons for her birthday. She’s been doing it for about 4 months now and really loves it. I brought the camera the other day and grabbed a couple of shots. In hindsight, I really should have upped my ISO a bit, but I was quite distracted by trying to keep an eye on Jubilee, who likes to climb everything in sight!
The very beginning of class. . . there were a few students who came in after this. There are usually 8-10 kids in her class.

Practicing the student creed, I believe.

The balance beam on the obstacle course.
